Issue…
Dear Friends of Doe Bay,
Doe Bay is open 365 days a year. That is remarkable.
Because we choose to underwrite the operation of Doe Bay Resort
& Retreat, we are “recession-resistant” which is
to recession-proof, as water-resistant is to waterproof. We all
hope the water isn’t too deep!
The tougher the economy, the more we get to pay
for the pleasure of owning the place. At the same time, the tougher
the economy, the more important it is to have a place where you
can have a bona fide respite from the rest of the world. Doe Bay
is a place to relax and reflect.
If you like Doe Bay and believe there should be
places like Doe Bay, please take advantage of us. We need and will
appreciate the business!
Come for Christmas!
A chance to have your family together away from the commercialism
of the big city. Christmas at Doe Bay is understated and peaceful.
Come for New Years!
Our whole family will be there for Sandman, “the rappin cowboy”
and the New Years feast. His show is only half the fun. We always
have a post-midnight bonfire with Cowboy / Rap / Poetry.
Buy a gift certificate
for a friend or loved one!
Give your family and friends gift certificates for Doe Bay; in $50
and $100 denominations. Call 360-376-2291 to order.
Order a Doe Bay Robe!
These are soft, luxurious and warm. We usually give these as gifts
to wedding couples who have their ceremonies at Doe Bay, but we
are now selling them to our guests.) For this and other DB clothing
call 360 376-2291. We ship within 24 hours of receiving your order.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of the newsletter.

Your (more or less) Personalized
New Years Invitation!
We still have space for our New Year’s celebration at Doe
Bay! This will be one of our best celebrations to date. With Sandman
already excited about his performance, a few other events in-planning,
and Abigael and Ande creating a menu that is a decadent way to prepare
for any resolutions you might intend for after January 1. Get your
space today!
There has never been a better winter to stay at Doe Bay. In the
next few weeks, you’ll be seeing more music, movies, and café
specials popping up on the calendar than you could possibly imagine.
You’ll still be able to come to Doe Bay and have a personal
retreat and some introspection, but you can also come and make like-minded
friends, enjoy on-island hikes, and take part in on-site activities
as never before. Watch our Events page for details.
If you’re thinking about organizing an Event between now
and 2010, we’d love to talk to you. Yoga Retreats, Family
Reunions, Weddings, Writer’s Workshops, Spiritual Retreats,
Film Workshops, Dance Intensives, and more have been hosted at Doe
Bay with great success. Let us know when you’re interested
in making an event happen and we’ll help make it the success
you want it to be.
We can’t wait to see you here again, or for the first time.
Be well. Be on the island,
~Harreld, Jami, and the entire Doe Bay Staff

and mergansers from the comfort of the café or library. If
you’re lucky, you’ll get to see a winter storm. Even
though we get a fraction of the precipitation of Seattle and Portland,
one of the coziest ways to spend time is watching the bluster of
whitecaps in Rosario Strait from your cabin or the tubs and sauna.

Executive Chef Abigael Birrell is making her mark
on our kitchen and is wowing diners from near and far. Building
on the legacy of the Chefs before her, Abigael is not only creating
meals that contain some of the highest percentages of locally-sourced
organic foods in the area, but she also happens to be making some
of the most lusciously delicious food available in a region filled
with foodies.
Incredible tasting food that you can feel good
about eating? You might think you’ve had it before. Not like
this. A palatial understanding of why the experience of food can
be transcendent, can be a tangible expression of art-as-sustenance;
that’s what you’ll get for dinner here.
Meanwhile, her partner-in-culinary-creation, Chef
Ande Janousek, can frequently be found making breakfasts that are
both exquisite and comforting, making baked goods that manage to
present a gold standard of texture and taste with a gamut from the
decadence of tortes or the reassurance of breads. You can taste
the deliciousness and the kindness in every bite of Ande’s
cooking.
Thanksgiving at Doe Bay
It is always a treat and this year’s Island
Thanksgiving was no exception. A feast was had that left people
talking about the food for hours. And that was just the welcoming
appetizers on Wednesday night.
Brunches on both Thanksgiving Day and on Friday
and, of course, The Main Event. To top it all off, we were honored
to host Lummi storyteller and spoken-word performers / singer-songwriters
Robert Eaglebear and Mary Snowden for two nights of stories and
songs and then finished the weekend with music. Olympia’s
June Madrona and Belgium’s Sleeping Dog set the perfect mood
the the café dinner to cap the weekend.
Booking for Thanksgiving of 2009 is open
NOW.

Up
and Coming Things You Want to Know About |
| Doe Bay in the wintertime? YES!
The winter is the quiet time on the islands. You’ll find much
more space on the island’s trails, more time to get the local
scoop on things to do, you’ll glory in the rugged beauty of
storm-watching or can take advantage of a placid sunny day in the
rainshadow. Winter in the San Juans are a perfect time to curl up
with a project to complete on our wifi network or to be able to
recharge with a soak in our much quieter tubs.
We’re currently in the process of booking music, workshops,
and events for our wintertime season. Please check our Events calendar
to see what’s in store for your stay.
Note: you MUST CALL Doe Bay directly TO BOOK THE
FOLLOWING SPECIAL (360) 376-2291.
