Dear Friends of Doe Bay,

Doe Bay is THE place in America for a destination wedding!

If you are engaged and have the dream of getting married this Season and not waiting until 2011, Doe Bay has a few dates left for 2010 full resort rental or partial resort rental!

For those who want to tie the knot now and eliminate the months of anticipation and worry, Doe Bay Resort & Retreat has May 14th-16th as well as June 4th-6th and June 25th-26th available for your destination wedding! For those who need a little more time to plan, but still want to have their wedding in 2010 consider reserving one of our two available weekends in October, 2010. Octobers have proven to have many sunny days and we have hosted some great celebrations in October.

Sure it is short notice but our Doe Bay team helps you plan a flawless celebration. Your family and friends can come enjoy a mini vacation while experiencing time to enjoy the magic of your intimate Doe Bay wedding and friendships old and new.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is the typical cost of a wedding at DB?

This varies based on the number of guests and which facilities you will need. A partial resort rental will provide that all lodging accommodations for your guests will be held in a block for their reservations. If you are a full resort rental, you will rent the entire place but your guests’ lodging will be deducted from the Full Resort Rental fee which you pay. There are very few resorts available for weddings to take over the entire place and make it their own. And of course, there is no place anywhere quite like Doe Bay! We can host weddings for as little as $12,000., inclusive of everything, and for as much as $30,000.00

Dine and dance under a tent and be wed by the water under the afternoon sun or the evening stars!

  • Why consider a Full Resort Rental?

This gives you much more control of the property so that you can determine Spa hours, Café hours are open to you and your guests alone! You don’t need to worry about noise bothering non-wedding guests right here on site because there aren’t any! There are fewer incidental charges for things such as the Yoga studio or the private time in the spa.

  • The food and drink are a big part of our planned celebration. How do you handle catering for weddings at Doe Bay?

Doe Bay Café has become one of the best restaurants in the islands. Executive Chef Abigael is proud that Doe Bay is committed to sustainable seafood and agriculture. Our fish is sourced right here from local waters and our shellfish comes from Buck Bay, 3 miles down the road.

Most of our produce is grown on our property at the Doe Bay Organic Garden and the rest is sourced from neighboring farms. The quality of our ingredients and the care that goes into the preparation of our meals can be summed up by one of our wedding couples, who provided the following appraisal:

I have been in one (and a guest at several other) weddings this summer since our own and have realized how much easier our own wedding planning was in large part to the convenience of Doe Bay and also that people have paid a lot more for catering, but that it has not come close to the quality of food that Doe Bay’s Café provided – fresh, flavorful and new and innovative dishes.”

Another Bride reports:

"I was so pleased and surprised when the yurt in which my husband and I would share our first night was prepared so beautifully with rose petals on the bed and a bottle of champagne on ice. Maureen didn't miss a thing in making our day truly special."

Doe Bay weddings are performed in an atmosphere of love and understanding!

Doe Bay is Open Again- 365 Days a Year

In the e-mail which probably brought you here, I mentioned that we just refurbished the Doe Bay spa. The water will always be hot, clean and bubbling! The sauna will be hot and the shower refreshing, in a good way. This time of year, the stream next to the spa is flowing full blast and it is a winter paradise as you can see below.

Spring Break Family Weeks at Doe Bay

March 27th to April 9th

Kids stay and EAT free

Won't it be great to have a little extra time with your kids over Spring Break. You could take your kids to see Avatar again and then spend way too much eating factory produced food at a restaurant that has Factory in the name. Or you could come up to Doe Bay and teach them that we used to not have cell phones or 250 channels on cable. We have several special events planned for families along with the regular options of spa visits, massage and yoga. We will have kid-friendly yoga classes, special cafe meals. Call Jami at the Front desk for details, options and reservations.

THE FOOD AT THE DOE BAY CAFE

I think that there must be others who have been slow to come around to the idea that feeding the American people is one of those areas, not best left to American business. I read Rachel Carson's Silent Spring in the 60's, but I remember my Mom saying that, as a Minnesota farm girl, the pre-pesticide era wasn't too great. I am a believer in free enterprise and believe that business will figure out ways to solve problems better than any other system. I believed a tomato from West Texas that looked just like one from Westsound (on Orcas), but was 5 cents cheaper, was a better deal. It might work once or twice but it will never taste as good or be as healthy.

Read Michael Pollan. Watch Food Inc.! But what can you do? There are of course many things, but one is to eat at the Doe Bay Cafe. Our culinary staff are fanatics about freshness; fanatics about organic and when in doubt they make it from scratch. NO SYSCO trucks are allowed on the property! We know where our food comes from, because most of it grows on our property!

Music at Doe Bay

Music has always been a big part of my life. The picture above was taken in 1967. The drummer is my cousin and the guitarist is Ricky Novito (RIP). Music is a huge part of Doe Bay. I could put any one of dozens of videos up for you to watch but this one of Kelli singing on the cafe stage last summer is a favorite. We have music every Thursday night when the microphone is open to all. We have a band most Friday nights. And we have Doe Bay Fest. If you are a musician and want to come and play at open mic or a Friday night gig, please write to me.

Volunteers at the Doe Bay Garden

Doe Bay hosts WWOOF volunteers all year round to work in our organic garden, learning organic gardening techniques and to participate in our Seed-to-Table program where what we grow in the Doe Bay Garden is what we all eat in the Doe Bay Cafe. Our WWOOF guests live at Doe Bay and get free room and board in exchange for their efforts. The program has been a huge success. If you are interested, please write to Heather, the Doe Bay Garden Manager.

Thank you for reading my ramblings. When you come to Doe Bay, ask if Joe is around and please introduce yourself to me.

Winter Events at Doe Bay!!!

Doe Bay in the wintertime? YES! The winter is the quiet time on the islands. You'll find much more space on the island's trails and more time to get the local scoop on things to do. You'll glory in the rugged beauty of storm-watching or you can take advantage of a placid sunny day in the rainshadow. Winter in the San Juans is a perfect time to curl up with a project to complete using our wifi network or to recharge with a soak in our much quieter tubs.
