Cumulus is the indie pop project of songwriter Alexandra Niedzialkowski. Cumulus released its second LP, Comfort World, in 2018 on Trans- Records (run by ex-Death Cab for Cutie guitarist/producer Chris Walla). I Never Meant It To Be Like This, the first Cumulus record released in 2013, was recorded over four days almost exactly as it had been arranged. Comfort World, by contrast, was languid, recorded over the course of seven months at Walla’s studio, Hall of Justice. Niedzialkowski brought in a crew of friends to fill out the album. There was time to play, experiment and chase the song. In the warm cocoon of the studio, surrounded by her friends, she felt as though she could do anything. The events of the recent year had shredded her and making Comfort World wove her back together in an uplifting album about coming to terms with loss, and coping with life’s challenges. Stereogum heralded Cumulus’s new music as “indicative of a musician that had spent the five years in between albums fine-tuning her songwriting to a precise degree.”  Comfort World also landed in KEXP DJ Kevin Cole’s top 10 albums of 2018, saying, “This record marks a sort of comeback for Alexandra Niedzialkowski, and it’s one that was well worth the wait! The songs on it speak to her growth, both as a person and musician, in the 5 years that have passed since her debut.”

Niedzialkowski will be performing a stripped down mix of material from both of her records, as well as experimenting with brand new songs. Although she most often plays with a band, Niedzialkowski still finds the most satisfaction in getting to the root of the stories behind the songs and sharing those stories in intimate spaces.
